Unlike higher-end models like the BR-MT400 or SLX series, the MT200 avoids premium materials but retains core Shimano engineering principles: consistency, reliability, and broad compatibility. For flat bar commuters, hybrid riders, eBike owners, and anyone upgrading from mechanical disc brakes, the MT200 delivers the fundamental advantages of hydraulic braking - firm lever feel, consistent modulation, and self-adjusting pads - at a price that makes the upgrade an easy decision. 

BL-MT200 Lever Ergonomic, Adjustable, Pre-Bled The BL-MT200 lever features a rigid steel lever and a master cylinder made of painted aluminum. Its diverse design fits multiple bike types. The slender 2/3-finger design includes adjustable reach, making it suitable for riders with smaller hands. The 75mm reach puts the lever within comfortable range regardless of hand size — a detail that matters for everyday commuters who spend hours with their hands on the bars. The lever feel is firm and direct from the first pull: no cable stretch, no housing compression, no dead travel before the pads bite. 

BR-MT200 Caliper 2-Piston, Quiet, Consistent :The BR-MT200 2-piston brake caliper provides reliable brake performance and reduces noise produced by the brake pads. Two-piston construction means both pads move simultaneously toward the rotor: even wear, even force, and consistent feel across the life of the pad. These hydraulic brakes work relatively quietly compared to other brakes at the same price point. Compatible with 160mm through 203mm rotors, covering the full range of standard bicycle and eBike rotor sizes. 

One-Way Bleeding System Means Easy Maintenance: Equipped with ONE WAY BLEEDING technology and pre-bled with Shimano Mineral Oil, this brake set ensures quick, clean, and straightforward installation and maintenance. The one-way bleed system means air can only travel in one direction through the system: making bleed procedures faster and more foolproof than conventional hydraulic systems. The brakes arrive pre-bled, so it is literally the case of just attaching them to the bike and you are done. No bleed required out of the box.

What's Included

Not included: Rotors, rotor bolts, bar tape or grips. For most builds we recommend Shimano SM-RT66 rotors in 160mm (standard bikes) or 180mm (eBikes).

Compatibility Notes

Flat bar levers only: the BL-MT200 is a flat bar lever. Not compatible with drop bar builds. For drop bar hydraulic disc brakes see the Shimano GRX RX400 or CUES U6030 in our range.

Post mount calipers: the BR-MT200 is a post mount caliper. Compatible with post mount frames and forks directly. For flat mount frames, a post-to-flat mount adapter is required. For IS mount frames and forks, an IS-to-PM adapter is required.

Rotors not included: compatible with 160mm through 203mm rotors. For standard bicycle builds we recommend 160mm. For hub motor eBikes we recommend 180mm — see the Shimano SM-RT66 180mm in our range.

Mineral oil: the MT200 uses Shimano mineral oil, not DOT fluid. Do not use DOT fluid in this system. Shimano mineral oil is available at the workshop.

Right rear / left front: as supplied, the right hand lever operates the rear brake and the left hand lever operates the front brake. This is the standard configuration for Canada, the USA, and most of the world.
