Evercoast Passage Commuter
The bike that makes Vancouver riding make sense.
The Passage Commuter is a flat bar chromoly steel bicycle built specifically for the way most Vancouver riders actually use a bike - getting somewhere, reliably, every day, in whatever the city throws at them. Not a race bike pressed into commuter service. Not a mountain bike stripped of its purpose. A bicycle designed from the ground up for urban and mixed-surface riding, built to the same standard as every other Passage in the lineup, and ready for the Arbutus Greenway, the downtown bike lanes, the gravel connector, and the grocery run home.
Flat Bar. Upright. In Control.
The flat bar position puts you upright and alert - hands on the controls, eyes on the traffic, weight balanced over the bike rather than pitched forward into it. For a rider navigating intersections, dodging car doors, and making quick decisions in traffic, this is the correct riding position. The 31.8mm cockpit is compatible with every accessory the daily commuter needs - lights, a computer, a bell, a mirror - without cluttering the bar or requiring proprietary mounts.
Steel That Earns Its Place
Every Passage Commuter is built on the Evercoast Passage frame - heat-treated, triple-butted 4130 chromoly steel, TIG welded and built to last. Steel absorbs road vibration progressively, which means your hands and lower back feel the difference after forty minutes on Vancouver's patched pavement. It does not corrode the way aluminium does at the joints. It does not require a specialist to assess after an impact the way carbon does. It is the right material for a bike that lives outdoors, rides in the rain, and carries the load of a real life.
Ready to Carry What You Need
Rack mounts front and rear. Full fender compatibility. Multiple bottle cage mounts. The Passage Commuter is built to carry what you actually carry - a pannier of groceries, a rack bag for work gear, a U-lock, a rain jacket - without asking you to compromise on riding quality to do it. Add fenders and a rack and you have a year-round commuter. Leave them off and you have a quick, responsive daily rider that is just as happy on the Seawall as it is on West 4th.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes. Every Build.
Every Passage Commuter ships with hydraulic disc brakes regardless of drivetrain specification. Vancouver's hills and wet weather demand consistent, modulated stopping power - mechanical disc brakes degrade under regular hard use and require constant adjustment to maintain performance. Hydraulic brakes self-adjust as the pads wear, deliver the same feel on a dry August morning as a wet November evening, and require significantly less maintenance over the life of the bike. On a bike used daily, this is not a premium option. It is the correct specification.
Multiple Drivetrain Options
The Passage Commuter is available in multiple drivetrain configurations to suit different budgets and riding preferences - from a capable entry-level 1x9 setup through to Shimano CUES LinkGlide 1x11, a drivetrain specifically engineered for long-service-life commuting use. All builds share the same frame, the same wheel specification, the same brake standard, and the same assembly and certification process at our Kitsilano workshop. The drivetrain changes. The bike does not.
Built and Certified in Vancouver
Every Passage Commuter is assembled by hand at 1737 Fir Street and put through the Evercoast 50-Point Technical Certification before it leaves the workshop. Frame alignment checked. Every bearing surface greased. Every bolt torqued to specification and logged. Then ridden. Every bike goes out on the road before it goes out the door.
Available in four sizes — 50, 53, 56, 59cm. Not sure what fits? Come into the workshop and we will fit you before you commit to anything.
