Jagwire KEB-SL Compressionless Brake Housing
The single most cost-effective brake upgrade available for any mechanical disc or rim brake system.
Most riders never think about brake housing. It is the black tube the cable runs through: functional, invisible, unremarkable. The problem is that standard spiral-wound brake housing is not actually rigid under load. The coiled steel construction compresses slightly every time you pull the lever, absorbing energy that should be reaching your brake pads. The lever travels further before the pads bite. The feel is vague. The modulation is inconsistent. And the problem gets worse gradually, so gradually that most riders never notice how far the system has drifted from how it felt when new.
With KEB-SL housing, the liner is surrounded by a compressionless ring of linear steel strands, encased in a Kevlar fabric to counteract the forces that occur during braking. The result is a much more direct and sensitive feeling: ideally suited for mechanical disc brakes or brakes with continuous outer housings, where the pressure point is improved enormously.
Linear Strand Construction No Compression Under Load: Standard brake housing is made from a coiled steel wire wound in a helix around the cable. That helix compresses. KEB-SL uses parallel linear steel strands running the length of the housing: strands that do not compress regardless of how hard you pull the lever. The compressionless design ensures that power is transferred more directly from lever to brake caliper, eliminating undesired flex and slack. Every millimetre of lever travel reaches the caliper. Nothing is absorbed by the housing.
Kevlar Reinforcement 30% Lighter Than Coiled Steel: A performance upgrade to coiled steel, this compressionless housing starts with a similar construction to LEX shift housing but includes Kevlar reinforcement. This reduces weight by 30% while improving power transfer and lever feel. Kevlar also resists the radial expansion that causes coiled housing to balloon slightly under extreme load: a problem that is particularly noticeable on eBike brake systems where lever forces are higher and more frequent.
Slick-Lube Inner Liner Friction-Free Cable Movement: The Slick-Lube liner eliminates cable flex, increases power transfer, and improves lever feel for sharper, more consistent braking. The low-friction polymer liner reduces cable drag throughout the housing run: the cable moves freely, snaps back quickly when the lever is released, and requires less frequent lubrication than bare-liner housing.
The Difference in Real-World Use Riders who have never used compressionless housing consistently describe the improvement in the same terms: firmer, more direct, more confidence-inspiring. One rider described it as transforming mushy brakes into firm, responsive brakes. Another noted it brought their mechanical disc brake performance meaningfully closer to hydraulic feel. The housing does not change the caliper or the pads: it removes the energy loss between lever and caliper that was always there, invisible and unnoticed.
This is why we install KEB-SL on every mechanical disc brake build at the Evercoast workshop, and why it is the housing we use in our RAD Power Bike brake upgrade program. It is not optional equipment on a mechanical disc brake system. It is the correct specification.
Sold Per Metre: Cut to length for your specific build. A standard bicycle requires approximately 2.0–2.5 metres for a complete front and rear brake run, more for bikes with full-length housing runs, cargo bikes, or non-standard routing. If you are not sure how much you need, bring the bike in and we will cut the correct lengths.

Compatibility Notes
Mechanical disc and rim brakes: KEB-SL is the correct housing for all cable-actuated brake systems. Not required for hydraulic brakes which use fluid lines rather than cable housing.
End caps: ferrules are required at each housing end to prevent the housing from fraying and to ensure a clean cable run. End caps are not included per metre but are available separately or ask us to cut and cap your housing at the workshop.
Cable not included: housing only. Standard stainless steel brake cables are available separately.
Recommended pairing: for maximum performance, pair with a quality stainless steel brake cable and the TRP Spyre or Tektro HD-E350 calipers, both stocked at Evercoast.
