Tektro HD-E350 Hydraulic Disc Brake Set Front and Rear, eBike Specific

Purpose-built hydraulic disc brakes for hub motor eBikes. The upgrade that changes everything.

The Tektro HD-E350 is not a standard bicycle hydraulic brake adapted for eBike use: it is an eBike-specific hydraulic disc brake designed from the outset for the additional weight, higher braking frequency, and motor cutoff requirements of hub motor electric bikes. Tektro is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of bicycle brake systems with over 30 years in the industry, with a professional research and development team committed to developing high-quality products. The HD-E350 is the brake we install on our RAD Power Bike hydraulic brake upgrades and the brake we recommend for any hub motor eBike transitioning from mechanical disc brakes. 

eBike Motor Cutoff Integration: The HD-E350 features an integrated motor cutoff switch: a 2-pin connector built into the brake lever that sends a signal to the eBike controller to cut motor power the moment the brake lever is pulled. On a hub motor eBike, this is the correct configuration: motor power and braking force working against each other is inefficient at best and dangerous at worst. The motor cutoff ensures that the moment you brake, the motor assists your stop rather than fighting it. Before purchasing, confirm whether your eBike controller uses a 2-pin connector: the HD-E350 uses a 2-pin motor cutoff connection.

2-Piston Hydraulic Caliper — Firm, Direct, Self-Adjusting: Compared to traditional single-piston brake calipers, the dual-piston design applies pressure evenly, allowing the brake pads to fit the discs more tightly, resulting in faster and more efficient braking: suitable for situations that require higher braking requirements such as high-speed descents or situations requiring frequent braking. Both pistons move simultaneously from each side of the rotor: even pad wear, even force, and consistent modulation throughout the pad life. The hydraulic system is self-adjusting: as pads wear, the pistons advance automatically to maintain consistent lever feel and engagement point. 

Real-World Stopping Power: User feedback suggests the HD-E350 handles emergency stops well, with a short stopping distance of around 2.5 to 3.0 metres at 25 km/h. The modulation is smooth and progressive: firm enough for confident urban braking, progressive enough for precise speed control on mixed terrain. For a heavy hub motor eBike used in stop-and-go Vancouver commuting, this is the brake specification the bike should have shipped with. 

Ceramic Brake Pads - Heat Resistant: The HD-E350 uses noiseless ceramic material with heat and wear resistance, providing high heat dissipation and heat tolerance. Ceramic pads run quieter than sintered metal pads, tolerate heat buildup better than organic resin pads, and last longer under the sustained braking loads that heavy eBikes generate in daily commuting use.

Die-Cast Aluminium Lever - Ergonomic, Reach Adjustable: The die-cast aluminum lever and bracket feature range adjustment for a comfortable reach. The ergonomic lever design provides a natural hand position for extended commuting use, and the reach adjustment accommodates a range of hand sizes without requiring tool disassembly.

Pre-Bled - Install and Ride: The HD-E350 is pre-bled with Tektro mineral oil and ready for immediate use. Attach the levers, mount the calipers, connect the motor cutoff wire, cut the hoses to length, and ride. No bleed required out of the box. Front hose is 1100mm, rear hose is 1850mm - correct lengths for standard eBike frame and fork routing.

Post Mount Calipers: Post-mount disc brake calipers with IS adapters included for frames and forks with IS brake mounts. Compatible with the IS brake mount standard used on many hub motor eBike frames. For post mount frames, the caliper mounts directly.

Compatibility Notes

Motor cutoff, 2-pin connector: the HD-E350 motor cutoff uses a 2-pin connector. Confirm your eBike controller accepts a 2-pin motor cutoff signal before ordering. Most Rad Power Bikes and common hub motor eBike brands use 2-pin. If unsure, bring the bike in and we will confirm compatibility.

Post mount calipers: IS-to-PM adapters included for IS mount frames and forks. For flat mount frames a post-to-flat mount adapter is required.

Flat bar levers only: not compatible with drop bar builds. For drop bar hydraulic disc brakes see our Shimano GRX or CUES groupset listings.

Mineral oil only: do not use DOT fluid. Tektro mineral oil is compatible and available at the workshop.

Rotors not included: for eBike use we strongly recommend 180mm rotors for improved stopping power and heat management. See our Shimano SM-RT66 and SM-RT86 180mm rotor listings. If your eBike currently runs 160mm rotors, upgrading to 180mm at the same time as the brake installation is the recommended approach. Rotor installation labour is included when performed alongside brake installation.

Right rear / left front: right hand lever operates the rear brake, left hand lever operates the front brake. Standard Canadian configuration.

Why Upgrade to the HD-E350

The HD-E350 is the brake we specify in the Evercoast eBike Brake Upgrade Program for a direct reason: it is the correct tool for the job. A 25–30 kg hub motor eBike with a rider aboard requires meaningfully more braking force than a standard bicycle: the physics are not forgiving. Mechanical disc brakes that were marginal when new degrade gradually, and most riders do not notice how far performance has drifted until a near-miss in traffic makes it obvious.

The HD-E350 replaces that degraded mechanical system with a purpose-built hydraulic caliper designed for the weight, the braking frequency, and the motor integration of a hub motor eBike. The difference is felt on the first ride and every ride after it.
