Velo Orange Grand Cru Seatpost 27.2mm Silver / Black
A seatpost that rewards the rider who pays attention to details. The Velo Orange Grand Cru is one of the most considered seatposts available at any price — not because it is exotic or heavily engineered, but because every decision in its construction reflects a genuine understanding of what makes a seatpost work well over years of daily riding. Internally ovalized tubing, an integral head, bottom-access two-bolt adjustment, and a 30mm setback option designed specifically for leather saddles with short rails. Built in 27.2mm to fit the Evercoast Passage and Seymour frames as standard. Available in polished silver and noir black, and in two setback configurations to suit different saddles and rider positions.
Integral Head. Stronger and Lighter.
On most modern seatposts the head is pressed onto the post body as a separate piece. On the Grand Cru the head is machined as a single integral unit with the post. The result is a stronger connection with less material at the joint — no risk of the head working loose over time, no weight penalty from the pressed-on hardware. It also gives the post a cleaner, more refined visual profile that looks correct on a well-built steel bike.
Internally Ovalized. Weight Removed Where It Is Not Needed.
The inside of the Grand Cru tube is ovalized rather than round — more material where the post needs to resist bending forces, less material where it does not. The result is a seatpost that weighs 282g on the Long Setback version and 295g on the Zero Setback, competitive with aluminium posts at a significantly higher quality level.
Two-Bolt Bottom Adjustment. Precise Saddle Angle.
All adjustment is accessed from the bottom of the clamp head using a single 5mm hex wrench. The two-bolt design allows precise saddle angle adjustment independently of saddle fore and aft position — tighten one bolt, loosen the other, and the angle changes without the saddle shifting forward or back. A more controlled adjustment than a single-bolt clamp that requires repositioning after every angle change.
Two Setback Options. Choose Based on Your Saddle.
The Zero Setback version positions the saddle clamp directly over the seatpost axis. The correct choice for most riders on synthetic saddles with full-length rails that allow significant fore and aft adjustment, and for riders who want the saddle as far forward as possible over the bottom bracket. Post length is 400mm with approximately 300mm of usable height above the minimum insertion line.
The Long Setback version provides 30mm of rearward offset — among the most generous setback available on a production seatpost. This is the version specifically designed for leather saddles like the Brooks B17 and B17 Special that have shorter rails and limited fore and aft adjustment range. On a leather saddle with 40mm of total rail length, 30mm of post setback is not a luxury. It is what allows you to get the saddle into the correct position for your body. Post length is 300mm with approximately 230mm of usable height above the minimum insertion line.
If you are pairing the Grand Cru with a Brooks leather saddle, the Long Setback is almost certainly the correct version. If you are pairing it with a synthetic saddle with full-length rails, the Zero Setback is the correct version. Not sure which applies to your build? Come into the workshop and we will advise based on your saddle and frame.
